Kapulei Flores
Kapulei Flores (Kanaka Maoli) is a photographer from Moku ‘o Keawe, also known as Hawai’i Island. Her work focuses on utilizing photography as a tool for activism to support the campaign Protect Mauna Kea and perpetuate the culture of Hawai’i. For over ten years, she and her family have supported the movement. Throughout that time, she has documented their journey at the frontlines.
Her work has been featured in Teen Vogue, Buzzfeed News, Vox, Ms. Magazine’s 25 under 25, and more. She is a member of photography collectives such as Indigenous Photograph and Photoville. In addition to her photography, Flores works with Mauna Kea Education and Awareness (MKEA). Through photography and social media, she’s highlighted different phenomenal native leaders who continuously work to protect the land and people.
